Need to chase a flaky mic or dead phones without tearing half the cabin apart? This little black box plugs directly into the headset jacks and lets your meter do the talking. Quick, compact, and the kind of tool that pays for itself on the first head-scratcher.
What is it?
- Dual GA plugs: A Microphone Plug and Headphone Plug protrude from one side—standard aircraft headset jacks, that plug straight into the panel. No pigtails, no guesswork.
- 6-position selector switch: Click through every conductor associated with typical GA phones/mic jacks—Mic Hi, Mic LO, PTT/Key, Audio L, Audio R, Audio LO. — one at a time for clean continuity checks.
- Multimeter-friendly: Single 4 mm banana port for your Whiskey Victor Tools Multi Meter leads. Set your MM to continuity or ohms and start beeping.
- Tight, tough, tidy: Compact housing that lives in the top drawer or carrying case and survives shop life. Positive labeling so you don’t “test the same wire twice.”
Why you’ll like it
- Zero interior tear-down: Stop pulling side panels just to ring out a jack. Plug in, click, confirm, move on. Save an hour or 2.
- Find the real fault fast: Is it the jack? The wire? The splice at pin 37? Narrow it down in minutes.
- Shop-floor simple: If it beeps, it works. If it doesn’t, you just found your problem.
Quick start — ring-out in minutes
- Master OFF. (We’re testing continuity, not running a concert.)
- Plug it in: Phones plug to phones jack; mic plug to mic jack. Cant mess that one up.
- Hook up your meter: Lead into the 4 mm banana; set to continuity/ohms.
- Find your audio panel: Locate the other end of the wire and adapt using Walts Avionics D-Sub adapters and long reach tool.
- Click the switch: Step through positions—each click isolates one conductor so you can confirm path, ground, and PTT.
- Log it & fix it: Beep good? Move on. No beep? Your one step closer. Good Luck.
Compatibility
- Fits standard GA dual-plug headsets/jacks (commonly called PJ-055/PJ-068).
- Not for LEMO® 6-pin or U-174 helicopter jacks without an adapter. Need a lemo or Helicopter single point adapter, see our store
Warnings & shop wisdom
- Kill the power. Test with ship power OFF. Don’t use with live audio panels. (Silence is golden—and safe.)
- Continuity/ohms only. No megger, no high-voltage insulation tests. (Save that for the harness on the bench.)
- Meter discipline: Good leads, good contact, good readings. (If your leads are crusty, everything looks broken.)
- Aircraft work: Follow OEM/FAA procedures. You’re the installer—you sign the book.
Warranty & liability (plain talk)
- 60-day defect coverage: If materials or workmanship are off, we’ll repair, replace, or refund within 60 days of purchase.
- No other warranties (merchantability/fitness, etc.).
- Liability is on you: By using this tool, you accept the risks of drilling, wiring, and troubleshooting. Whiskey Victor Tools isn’t liable for injury, property damage, lost time/profits, or any indirect/special stuff. (We make tools, not promises.)
